When it comes to iPhone and iPod accessories, ZAGG is one name that many people are familiar with, especially with the popular invisibleSHIELD and ZAGGaudio brands, but this time round they are offering something slightly different. It won’t protect your iPhone or iPod against knocks, drops and scratches, but it does something which most gadget-toting folks would appreciate – by virtue of it being ZAGGsparq, a portable lithium polymer battery system that can provide multiple charges for any personal electronic device as long as they are powered by a USB plug.
As many frequent travelers can testify, you tend to run out of juice for your gadgets during the most inopportune of moments, especially when you just need to make that particular phone call only to have your phone die on you before the third ring is over. As mentioned earlier, the ZAGGsparq is able to provide a portable battery charge for any USB-charged device, where it includes cellphones, handheld gaming systems like the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP and digital cameras among others. You can hook up the ZAGGsparq into a standard wall outlet, where you get a couple of USB 2.0 ports to go along with it to charge up two mobile devices simultaneously. Acording to ZAGG, the ZAGGsparq’s internal battery is more than capable of holding up to four complete recharges for your regular Apple iPhone.
The 6000ma lithium polymer cell found in each ZAGGsparq is able to be charged over 2,000 times before one experiences a significant drop-off in battery life, and by that virtue, the ZAGGsparq is one of the world’s most powerful portable battery – size-wise, at least. Assuming you juice it up once every three days, that ought to last you for around 6 years, where by then you probably won’t have any use for it anymore as you would have probably come across other more power-efficient solutions. You will be able to place your order for the ZAGGsparq for $129.99 a pop if you don’t happen to have the habit of charging your gadgets each night before you go to sleep.

AirStash Boosts iPhone Storage Wirelessly
Back when the classic iPod was released with 160GB of memory, it seemed as if the amount of memory on Apple devices could only get better and better. Then the iPhone and iPod Touch came out and had a fraction of the memory. Sure, they’re much prettier than the rest of the iPods released by Apple, but they’re lacking all of the storage space that we all know and love. Well this AirStash is used to wirelessly give your iPhone and iPod Touch the memory boost it needs.
The details are the AirStash are a little limited as of now. They’re just allowing a sliver of the information to leave you craving more on the device. Particularly how much it will end up costing you. It does promise to expand the storage of your device with a wireless memory card that takes swappable SD cards. All of this can hook up to your computer through the USB port. I imagine that details will start trickling out later this week.

Mophie to offer iPhone credit card reader
When the iPhone was first released a few years ago, the whole world was abuzz with anticipation on how Apple would be able to an above-average cellphone experience to the masses, and I must admit, we weren’t disappointed. Heck, expectations were so high that folks even queued up outside the store for a couple of days before its release, willing to fork out a whopping $599 outright for the handset (and that is even before one takes into consideration the monthly fees). Well, the iPhone has certainly come a long way since its release with incremental upgrades and updates introduced along the way, and it seems as though this smartphone is able to do just about anything (save for stemming pollution around the world). Today, we bring you news of another new function introduced to the iPhone thanks to Mophie – with their iPhone credit card reader.
Mophie, the popular iPhone and iPod accessory and battery add-on maker, will use CES 2010 as the platform to introduce their iPhone credit card reader and third-party app, marking the accessory manufacturer’s first attempt to break into the lucrative mobile payment systems market. The accessory has been unimaginatively dubbed as the “Credit Card Reader”, where each purchase will be accompanied by a complimentary third party processing application which enables one to turn the iPhone into a functional device that accepts credit payments simply by swiping one’s credit card through a special casing attached that is connected to their handset.
There are still a great many details concerning this new mobile payment system by Mophie that have yet to be unveiled, and industry analysts are pretty sure that the device’s success will depend largely on the design and bulk of the iPhone add-on alongsde a price point that is hoped to be customer friendly. Make no mistake, this device isn’t about to start a monopoly in such a segment since it will go up head-to-head against Square. The Mophie Credit Card Reader will be packaged as an iPhone-only shell case which is similar to their Juice Pack Air battery pack for iPhone.

iVictrola iPhone and iPod Touch Amplifier
If you prefer new technology that looks much older than it actually is, then this device would be great to have lying around. It looks like more of an antique than an even remotely new gadget. Yet it will happily play your iPod all day long and without using a single battery. Not only that, but you won’t be forced to plug this into the wall either. Making this an extremely convenient gadget.
It seems almost impossible for there to be no batteries, nor the need for it to be plugged in. Not to mention that this doesn’t use a solar panel or anything else along those lines. Instead it uses an entirely acoustic amplification. The horn is made from metal, which actually maximizes that amplification. The base itself is hand-carved from walnut, that walnut is pulled from remnants of high-end furniture. Unfortunately, this device is fairly expensive, it’ll cost you $400.

iXtreme Amplified Speaker
The iPod (or any other MP3/portable media player for that matter) is great if you’re one who loves keeping yourself entertained whenever you wait for the next bus or train or even across a trans-Atlantic journey, but will it be of use when you host a party? Well, there are iPod speaker docks for those, but there is also another solution in the form of the iXtreme Amplified Speaker.
Makes us wonder just how far your $29.95 will bring you audio-wise with the iXtreme Amplified Speaker. I must say, I do have my reservations about its capability of pumping out room shaking sound. No speaker on the market packs such a powerful punch. Operatingthe same way as a quality subwoofer, a secret resonating chamber amplifies the speaker output through a patented expander tunnel. Deep bass and rich sound fill the room. Who knew such a rich sound could be produced from such a tiny device. Built-in rechargeable Lithium ion batteries allows you to play music louder and for longer than when using a speaker that pulls power from your player. This party is getting started.

If you can’t swing the big iPod boombox, at least you can have this tiny one. It’ll allow for you to play your music through a classic boombox, but you won’t have to break the bank to buy it. Of course you’ll look really silly trying to perch this on your shoulder, so you might just want to leave this one on the tabletop. At least you’ll get to combine your new technology with a true classic. The dock features double speakers and is supposed to offer a rich sound. It’s compatible with most iPods and even will work great with the iPhone. The device can only be wiped clean, for obvious reasons. They don’t state how the dock receives its power, whether it’s by batteries or if it’s USB powered. I would hope it’s USB powered, but you never know. You can purchase it for $18.

Wiimote turned into MP3 player
The Wiimote is one versatile piece of plastic, as an enterprising brain decided to pick its innards and replace it with the presence of an iPod Shuffle inside. Heck, even the case has been modified a bit to accommodate a pair of headphones, with the Shuffle residing comfortably within the confines of where the AA batteries are supposed to be. Definitely adding a whole lot more bulk to what was once an extremely portable MP3 player, this Wiimote hack will surely attract attention wherever you go. Source: Technabob

Altec Lansing’s Expressionist Ultra and the MIX
I got a chance to see what Altec Lansing was up to at CES last January, and its nice to see that they are still innovative with two new products: the Expressionist Ultra and the MIX.
The Expressionist Ultra is the set of speakers that you see to the left. As you can see, they have a very unique shape and transparent trapezoidal frame for a look that should compliment any desk. The speakers have a 200 watt powerhouse with a 3 inch midrange driver and 1 inch neodymium tweeter. The Expressionist Ultra also has fingertip controls, Audio Alignment technology, a headphone jack, and connects with AUX in jack and RCA adapter.

The MIX, seen to the immediate left, is a combination of iPod dock and 80’s style boombox. It is perfect for DJs-in-training as it has three music player inputs, a 30 pin dock connector for the iPhone and iPod, as well as two front-facing 3.5mm jacks. It plays for 30 hours on 8 D-cell batteries and has Audio Alignment, a Digital FM radio, and Dual AUX IN jacks for two additional audio players via front-facing 3.5mm jacks.

Speaker Bags Play Music from your iPod
I don’t know if Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are friends anymore, but if they ever do get together and hit Rodeo Drive, I highly recommend they tote around the speaker bags.
Yes, these speaker bags don’t just look like speakers, but they are speakers for iPods, and I would imagine iPhones. It brings out about 30 watts worth of power, which is enough to disturb the salespeople and other customers as the rich girls throw high-priced items into the bag itself.

Of course, I don’t know how much the bag can hold with the dock inside, but hey, it’s all about style, isn’t it? I do know that the dimensions are 46 x 12 x 11 centimeters. Now if only they would make this in pink. Rich heiress girls from Beverly Hills would be all over this. “Yeah, we love shopping
with the speaker bag”.

iHat
Yes, there are a lot of iPod or other MP3 speakers out there, and most of them begin with “i”. I suppose what makes the iHat unique is the fact that it is seasonal.
Seasonal, meaning made for the winter season. It’s getting colder where I am living, and I could use a hat to keep warm. If the hat happens to have a speaker in each ear, then more power to it. Now if it was made to be wireless, I guarantee that every skier would want to wear one of these.

iPod nano updated
So the yearly cycle continues, with yet another iPod being updated this time round. Apple’s event at San Francisco saw the appearance of Steve Jobs to the masses, and it goes without saying the man had a hand in unveiling the latest iPod nano to the crowds, now in its fifth iteration. What makes the iPod nano so special this time round? Well, Apple has decided to throw in a video camera, a microphone and a speaker to what is already deemed as the most popular portable media player in the world, allowing music aficionados to shoot short video clips (limited by its memory, of course) regardless of where they are. These video clips can then be viewed over the computer after performing a quick and painless transfer, and further uploaded onto YouTube if you’re so inclined.

Apple releases new iPod touch
Just like the new generation of iPod nano was announced earlier this morning, so do we have news of a new iPod touch as well, pushing the device into the third generation. One thing that would disappoint most people about this would be the lack of a built-in digital camera after being hyped up about it through various rumors and fan sites over the past weeks and months, but guess there is always the anticipation of seeing said integrated digital camera make an appearance sometime in the future with the fourth iteration of the iPod touch. What’s cooking with this generation of iPod touch? We’ll take a closer look at it right after the jump.

3rd generation iPod touch has 802.11n Wi-Fi chip
The folks at iFixit decided to get their hands dirty by performing an autopsy of sorts on a new 3rd generation iPod touch, and their findings have been surprising to say the least. First of all, they discovered that this latest device has a Broadcom BCM4329FKUBG wireless chip in its chassis, making it very possible for the iPod touch to function on 802.11n wireless networks without missing a beat. In addition, it also comes with a a Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and a FM receiver and transmitter, alongside some space for a camera in the same vein as an iPod nano. Talk about leaving room for the future, eh? While you can’t take advantage of 802.11n support at the moment, hopefully future Apple updates will fix that.
